Hale’s Noose began carving its way into the heavy music world in early 2005, a year and a half after vocalist Shaun
and guitarist Ed decided to put Become One, their second hardcore project, to rest. Become One was a follow up to the more
metallic band, Standing 8 Count, which featured a dense-riffed, moshy, hardcore style, that strayed from the norms of other
hardcore bands from Long Island. At the bands pinnacle, Become One was building a mild buzz across their local scene before
Shaun decided to put the band’s efforts on hold to finish college upstate. They shared stages with bands such as Most
Precious Blood, Throwdown, Skarhead, The Hope Conspiracy, The Dillinger Escape Plan, E- town Concrete, Prayer For Cleansing,
Stretch Armstrong and Agnostic Front. Shortly after Shaun’s return, the small legacy of Become One would end rather
abruptly when they parted ways with drummer Nevio. Remaining members were exhausted in attempts to refill his role. Finally,
drummer & friend Rick (Diesel) helped step in to get Shaun and Ed’s new project into gear. Rick practiced with the
band for a few weeks and then introduced them to drummer Alex, a more appropriate fit, whom attached a grindcore element to
their already heavy hardcore sound. The final piece to the puzzle was obtained when Ed brought the youthful, energetic guitarist-turned-bassist
Elvis Pera to their practice space. Together they created songs of sheer, unmatched emotion which channels through blast-beat-ridden
ferociousness and exerts into the moshiest breakdowns ever known to man (or to any kid wearing a VOD, Minor Threat, or Slayer
t-shirt). Lyrically, the songs tap you into the area of Shaun’s clouded mind of despair, love, frustration, envy, politics
and triumph, all which reflect a lower-middle class reality. Even a touch of Ed’s sexually deviant behavior/guitar playing
adds an aura to their violent-sounding yet surprisingly positive mixture. Juggling through about 5 band names that were either
already taken or just not good enough to unanimously agree upon, they were stoked after coming up with the idea to name the
band after American revolutionary war spy Nathan Hale, whom was caught and hung by the British, leaving the famous last words
“ My only regret is that I have but one life to lose for my country”. Although collectively the band’s politics
are more neutral towards patriotism, the “noose” emphasizes the extremity of the band’s sound while Nathan
Hale was a passionate martyr that many would look up to. Since then the band has been smashing up stages in the area with
their freshly recorded 5-song demo. Relentless motivation and a “never-surrender” work ethic provide Hale’s
Noose with the strength to prevent any obstruction from hindering their path. Rather than to simply align themselves with
the overcrowded competition of dull cookie-cutter metalcore bands, Hale’s Noose are a vision much grander. Years in
the hardcore scene make monotony intolerable and they simply are not a band that will settle for it. Taking innovative risks
sonically and scripting lyrics of aberrant topics are only the beginning of the band’s quest for distinctiveness. A
vivid world of exponential progression is what they seek and 2006 is the year it all begins.
